MEET QUESTIONS
Where and how often?
BRAVO swimmers compete in USA-sanctioned meets, usually about once a month depending on their group. Most meets are in South Florida; travel meets depend on the season, group, and qualifying standards. Check the team event schedule and each meet announcement.
Coaches choose all entries to develop well-rounded swimmers—not just their strongest events.
Entries and attendance
- All team swimmers are assumed to be participating. Tell the coaches within seven days of the meet announcement if your swimmer cannot attend. Without a response, your swimmer will be entered.
- Meet fees are not refunded for a no-show without notice during that seven-day window.
- Swimmers need at least 80% attendance to participate in meets.
Meet fees
Fees vary by meet and are listed in each announcement. BRAVO adds a $20 surcharge per swimmer to help cover meet expenses, credit card fees, coaches’ expenses, and sometimes hotel fees. Invoices must be paid in full before the meet.
Championship meets
Some meets require qualifying times. Our goal is to help as many swimmers as possible achieve Junior Olympic, Senior Champ, and N cuts.
Each swimmer has a championship meet, with rest during the preceding weeks at practice and at home. Swimmers shave to reduce drag and, depending on age, wear technical suits.
On meet day
- Arrive at least 15 minutes before warm-up—6:45 for a 7:00 warm-up. Check unfamiliar locations and allow enough travel time.
- Coach-led stretching begins 10 minutes before warm-up. Swimmers enter the water one at a time when warm-up starts.
- Bring team suits, shirts, and caps, plus plenty of water and healthy snacks. No glass bottles or containers.
- After each event, see the coach for feedback and a warm-down distance.
- Parents must stay in the designated viewing area so swimmers can work with their coaches and teammates.
Meets can be stressful for young swimmers. Bring the cheers; the coaches will bring the corrections. Avoid negative comments about performances—mistakes will be addressed at practice.
